Exceptional. One of the best interpretations of A Christmas Carol that I’d ever seen. The lighting, sound design, sets, costumes, singing/acting, transitions between scenes, etc. – just fantastic. Bravo.
The Guthrie Theatre is a performing arts theater, but we went there for the view.
It is free to walk in and take the elevator to the 5th floor Blue Room and then outside to the lookout where there are spectacular views of the Stone Arch Bridge and the city. Then you take a different elevator up to the 9th floor yellow room where there are even more spectacular and higher views of the city.
The modern Guthrie Theatre is a performing arts theater -with incredible scenic views overlooking Minneapolis’s Stone Arch bridge and creative and popular broadway plays.
The seating is all comfortable, great lighting and while we have ever only sat close to the stage, all views are great! We attended the back stage event they had over the summer as well, which was incredible. They have a long history.

I recently went to the Guthrie for the first time and wow what an experience! I saw the show Little Shop of Horrors and it was an absolutely phenomenal experience!! I can’t wait to go back. And aside from the theater, the building itself is nice to explore. The endless bridge, the amber room, all the windows showcasing downtown Minneapolis, the cute giftshop, etc. Highly, highly recommend!!
Great stop, even if you’re not going to a show. Free sights! Take the long escalator up to the 4th floor and enjoy the views from the half bridge. Then, take the elevator to the 9th floor and enjoy the views from the Yellow Room!
Always a good time seeing a quality production at the Guthrie! Yesterday was no exception as we saw “Little Shop of Horrors” from the front row, which was really a blast. The facilities are lovely, getting to the theater from out of town was easy, and there are lots of affordable parking options nearby. Can’t wait to do it again!
The Guthrie is a gem for Minneapolis and all of Minnesota. We recently saw The Lehman Trilogy and were blown away! Highly recommended for a nice night out in Minneapolis. The views from the Endless Bridge (picture) are hard to beat!
Great place to watch a show. I saw Little Shop of Horrors and it was fantastic! High quality acting, singing, and dancing. Main guy had roles on Broadway so you know it’s legit. The theater had a unique spin on the show which was interesting to see. As for the venue, I have mostly positive things to say about this place. It was clean, organized, pretty easy to know where you have to go, and even though there’s a lot of people it didn’t seem overly crowded. My only note is that the seats are horribly uncomfortable. They’re covered in the itchiest, scratchiest, bristly velvet I’ve ever felt. My sister wore a dress and the backs of her legs felt irritated. We had to use her sweatshirt to provide a barrier between the seat and her legs. In a pinch, you can always ask the usher for a few extra programs. My disclaimer for this theater is to wear long pants, or bring your own drop cloth. The seats didn’t hinder me too much from the amazing show though.
