Great contemporary art museum! I visited for the first time during the Keith Haring exhibition and it was awesome. The museum is very spacious with several galleries. It’s a clean, modern and inviting space. It’s also pretty easily accessible with an elevator spanning all floors. I definitely will be back for future exhibitions and to try out the mini golf they have on the rooftop!
Wow, this museum is bustling with activity and such beautiful displays and cool lighting, so much to see, and I never got tired walking around. Highly recommend going on Thursdays when there is happy hour and they stay open till 9 pm. Sculpture gardens were great. Went to Sculpture gardens in New Orleans, and this one was very similar, but different too. Both are great.
Loved this museum! It’s very beautiful and the perfect size. We were here for the Keith Haring exhibit and they had a picture of him in a sweatshirt that said Walker because he had visited. It makes me emotional and sad to think of how much his art would have continued to evolve had he lived. He was breaking into these sculptural and huge ambient pieces towards the end of his life and I wonder if he would have done more of that, or where he would’ve gone next. Gone too soon. In any case the museum is also located in a beautiful area and the hill beside it is art in and of itself. We were impressed by their permanent collection as well as the other exhibits they had. Very well curated and an awesome time overall. One of those situations where the building is intriguing in and of itself. The sculpture garden or whatever you want to call it is right across the road. Really good time. I love contemporary art.
Students get in free which is a huge plus, I’d prefer less contemporary/modernized art and videos as they don’t quite fit the aesthetic of the beautiful cultural and vintage piece. MIA has similar, more interesting exhibits and much more space. Regardless, it’s nice for its area and complemented by the sculpture garden just across the street.
Due to my limited time in Minnesota, I am unable to go to the museum as it opens only on wed.
But I am able to explore the architecture of it outside. It has my fav contemporary pop artist Keith haring work in it.
The space seems to be nicely curated with view on the outside facing the sculptural garden.
Would love to visit it next time and see the work in the museum.
Even though MIA is my favorite by far due to personal tastes in artistic expression. Walker still is worth a visit every now and then. You can go the first Saturday of each month for a free admission ticket.
Nice museum with indoor and outdoor exhibits. Low entry fee. Parking lot structure is a bit strangely setup but not terrible.
Nice collections and variety of art, inside and outside. Great view of the city from the roof terraces. Nicely laid out over multiple floors with stairs or elevator. Free admittance on Thursday nights and on the first Saturday of the month, which is when we spur of the moment decided to check it out. I bet the view of the city skyline would be fantastic at night too. Maybe next time! I definitely would visit again.
I stopped in the non gender restrooms near the parking garage on the way in & out, and both were pretty dirty. I would avoid that though.
