Things To Do During Labor Day Weekend

For many, Labor Day Weekend marks the end of summer and the last weekend before school starts. We think it’s a great time to experience some of Minnesota’s favorite celebrations and family-friendly attractions.

Stay central to all the fun and make it a weekend getaway with a stay at one of Bloomington’s over 45 hotels. There are multiple types of accommodations to choose from and most offer free shuttle service to Mall of America® – home to over 500 stores to finish up your school shopping. Before you go, be sure to download offers found only at Mall of America for great back-to-school savings.

The Minnesota State Fair is the largest fair in the state, attracting over 1.9 million visitors annually. From August 22 through Labor Day, September 2, 2024, the fair delights with world-renowned entertainment, agricultural and animal exhibits, fun competitions and contests, and delicious food found only at the fair. The list of fun is endless!

Transport yourself back to the 16th century with a trip to the Renaissance Festival. Laugh at court jesters, shop for handicrafts, watch a joust and enjoy some delicious, authentic fare. The Renaissance Festival is open weekends from August 17 – September 29, plus September 2 and 27. The theme for Labor Day weekend is Highland Fling, with athletic competitions and feats of strength highlighted! Purchase your ticket online and choose from special offers that include admission to the festival, special deals, and holiday experiences.

A mom and her baby looking at a llama at Llama Trek at the Minnesota ZooCatch the last few days of Llama Trek at the Minnesota Zoo over Labor Day weekend. This special experience along the Northern Trail allows guests to walk among free-roaming llamas. For an additional fee, guests can also feed or walk a llama on the designated llama walk path! The Zoo’s Dino Hideout is also open for guests to take a thrilling walk among incredibly realistic dinosaurs, and the recently opened Treetop Trail provides a sky-high view of the Zoo’s hundreds of animals.

If you’re looking to just relax and enjoy Minnesota nature, Bloomington offers abundant outdoor activities, from leisurely strolls through the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge to tranquil canoe rides at Hyland Lake Park Reserve to fresh produce shopping at the Bloomington Farmers Market.

We wish you a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend!
