Perfect place for a fall stroll or even just some time in nature. Amazing views and very well maintained arboretum. The even do events and it’s the perfect place to go and get engaged if you were ever thinking of it. The staff at the arboretum is awesome at coordinating with you to pick the perfect spot for an engagement or even a different ceremony. Lots of awesome events and little things to do here. Buy your tickets ahead of time and be prepared for a small parking nightmare, but it’s great to go here
As you arrive your first stop will be to either buy tickets or to have your pre purchased tickets scanned. While it’s easy to buy there it does save everyone in line a bit of time if you pre buy them.
Next find a parking spot. Curve to the right to find most parking or go left after the big building to find the three mile drive. Make sure to do this drive regardless of whatever else you are doing that day.
Once you park there is plenty to explore. Take your time and truly enjoy your time here. Take a few pictures and then put your phone away. Especially on the trails. We barely saw anyone on the Ridge trail, which was really too bad because it’s gorgeous. If timing is short at least do the green heron trail.
There is plenty to explore inside the buildings as well. Bathrooms are in good condition and they have water bottle refill stations.

As an aspiring botanist, this place was amazing. I enjoyed the many and varied gardens. The waterfall was gorgeous as well.
I loved the pollinator center the most.
One thing I want to point out is the many workers tending to the gardens. It is amazing and encouraging to see them work. Hopefully, I could do that someday.

What a beautiful place! Many areas easily accessible by wheelchair. I’d recommend taking the tram tour, as the guide was so knowledgeable. Lots of trials of different trees and plants. Huge hosta garden, beautiful annuals, rose garden, Japanese garden, sculpture garden, Chinese garden, vegetable gardens… Great way to enjoy a day outdoors.
Have per person rate or memberships. Totally worth the price if you want landscape ideas, or just enjoy nature. Have road trails, bike trails, walking trails both paved and unpaved. You can bring a cooler on wheels and sandwiches, eat at a picnic table (no grills). Handicapped accessible out houses along trails. If you want to see everything plan on spending the day.
The arb was absolutely stunning the expansive 1,200 acre lot has so many different paths and gardens. Felt like I was roaming around another country enjoying the scenery and landscapes. Highly recommend the 3 mile walk trail, had so much diversity in the scenery and great exercise. Also has a lovely cafe, making this a great day trip or activity! UMN students get in free as well. All ages friendly.
Super loved our walk in this place. Wish we had more time but will definitely be back! Staff was very helpful to make the most of the time we have. The Japanese garden is nice plus all the dahlias in full bloom during our visit.
I always love to visit here, especially during the holidays for their lights. They had a warming hut, multiple fire pits, and drinks in the main building.
